We’re running it back! – Return to Braunschweig for the second highly unofficial cube championship!
Join us celebrating Magic’s greatest format. A variety of different draft environments will allow you to enjoy the visions of the designers, test your competitive muscle or just enjoy the company of friendly people.
You don’t need to bring any cards to participate – everything you need will be provided.
The CubeOpen is an inclusive environment. We do not tolerate any form of racism, sexism, homophobia or transphobia. If you hear, see, or experience anything at our event or leading up to it that makes you or someone else feel unsafe, please reach out to us as soon as possible.
When and Where?
CubeOpen Braunschweig will be held the weekend of June 13th + 14th 2026 at Kinder- und Jugendzentrum Mühle, An der Neustadtmühle 3, 38100 Braunschweig.
On Saturday the doors open at 9:00. Please be there at 09:45 the latest. Drafts start at 10:00. We strive for a smooth tournament and kindly ask for everyone’s support for this.
Sunday starts an hour earlier, to allow a timely journey home for those from other cities.
Of note: “Tag der Niedersachsen” is happening concurrently to the event, expect higher traffic and make accommodations early.

Registration
The event is strictly non-profit. All remaining funds will be donated to Kinder- und Jugendzentrum Mühle.
We ask for 25 € to cover our costs, feel free to contribute more. Should the 25 € be a hindrance, please contact us and we will find a solution.
If you can’t make the event please let us know as soon as possible. Please note that any cancellations after May 29th will only be refunded if we can find a replacement.

Structure
The structure will deviate a little from the ones at the previous CubeOpens in Hamburg and Potsdam.
The format of the event will be nine rounds of Swiss rounds plus a top 8 playoff. The swiss portion is divided into three drafts, each featuring a different cube:
Two drafts on Saturday and one more draft followed by the top 8 on Sunday.
However, to provide players an event with a vibe that suits them we will be allocating the draft pods of drafts #2 and #3 according to the match points at the time (not exactly the standing). This means that preferences for specific cube environments can only be taken into account to a smaller degree. We will still try to take your wishes into account with a priority given to the pods lower in the standings.
As this is an experiment, we highly encourage giving us feedback on this structure after the event is completed.
Top 8 will be single elimination cube draft and will be timed by one of our judges. Matches in the top 8 are untimed.
Schedule
Friday – Setup and side events
18:00 – First chance for side events at the venue
Saturday – Main event day 1
09:00 – Start of registration
10:00 – Start of draft 1
14:00 – Lunch break (bring your own food or order)
15:00 – Start of draft 2
19:00 – After party with side events and barbeque (We will barbeque for you, if you bring your own food)
Sunday – Main event day 2

13:30 – Top 8 draft followed by award ceremony and farewell
Eat and drink
Soft drinks will be available for purchase at the venue for a small price. Coffee, tea and water (the tap water quality is high in Braunschweig) will be available for free.
We try to provide some food and snacks during the day, but can not guarantee a full lunch – especially on Sunday. We recommend bringing your own food or using a delivery service.

5th through 8th: One booster each of MH2, MH3 and TLA boosters
9th through 12th: One booster each of DSK, DFT and SOS boosters

Every participant will receive a History of Braunschweig Proxy, illustrated by Felix Franz, as a souvenir.
Throughout the event you will be able to win prizes for completing small achievements. These achievements will be custom tailored by the cube curators.
Additionally the winners of the pods in the Swiss rounds will be rewarded with a booster as a prize as well.
The Cubes
Our main event will feature all unique cubes to guarantee everyone will play a fresh cube every draft, while assembling the draft pods according to the match points. Furthermore there will be more cubes available than actually played to improve our ability to let players play cubes they desire/don’t dislike.

The top 8 cube
Replicating the metagame of Canadian Highlander from 01/Jan/2025 to 05/June/2025 the first iteration of this cube answers Vintage Cubes two biggest problems:
Not being able to draft power
Having to draft power over cards you like
The result is a no holds barred environment with high levels of interaction, power for everyone at the table and some of Magics strongest combos.
Regular cubes
A classic powered vintage cube without the Initiative or Time Vault.
The little O/2 that could. In this cube Ornithopter takes front and center stage being your only win condition.
Call of the Nerd Premodern Cube
A Cube that showcases the depth of gameplay possible with cards from the premodern era (before 2003).
This legacy cubes features silver-bordered, draft matters and unfinity cards. Promoting a high variance, high power, high synergy and high silliness play experience.
Typical Vintage Cube game play. A split between core and occasionals guarantees that every combo piece will be opened during the draft, while also giving room for less seen role players.
“Break it till you make it”
This peasant cube makes some exceptions to enable high powered combos and gives you Cogwork Librarians to ensure that you’re able to draft them.

This peasant cube comes with a deep lineup of gold cards but limited fixing keeping drafters focused on their 2 or 3 color decks.
